From Vintage Style Jewelry Box to a Gorgeous Antique Silver Victorian Vase — The Country’s Biggest Flea Market
The Diva had the pleasure of shopping for antiques and collectibles at one of the biggest flea markets she has ever seen.
Brimfield, Massachusetts is home to what is actually a series of flea markets three times a year — spring show, summer show and fall show. There are currently more than twenty separate markets, containing thousands of dealers and their wares spread out over a space of approximately one mile down Route 20.
If you are planning a trip to Boston in the future and you love antiquing and flea-marketing, it would be worth your while to schedule the trip at the time of one of Brimfield’s three annual fairs. The spring and fall shows are the largest, with the summer show being a little more than half the size of the other two shows. I arrived very early in the morning and spent the next two days searching for treasures at the many different individual markets. The markets all have different times and dates of opening, and some do charge admission.
Among the wonderful finds I made over those two days was a gorgeous antique silver victorian vase, several art deco pieces, posters, fabrics, an old vintage style jewelry box that was in perfect condition, jewelry, books and an old Spencerian Pens spool-cabinet type chest. I was limited not only by money, but by space in my car.
